Kathryn and I are quite honored and touched to have been asked to be the godparents of our cousins’ youngest daughter. After work today, we’ll be traveling to southern Illinois via St. Louis to be at her baptism on Sunday. It’s the first time I’ve been called to be a godparent, and the second time for Kathryn.

If you find the link to this post on the front page of the blog, you’ll notice the partial image of a sign written in French. The sign hangs over the simple stone font where St. Joan of Arc was baptized centuries ago. Kathryn and I made a brief pilgrimage last fall to the church in Domrémy-la-Pucelle, France, where the font now sits. I chose the image as a reminder that holy lives often have humble beginnings.
